Innovation Central Perth: Bridging the gap between academia and industry

Innovation Central Perth’s internship program has connected a myriad of students to industry. Our proven program enables students to apply their knowledge outside of the classroom environment, whilst providing them with hands-on practical experience.

The following video showcases a handful of our intern success stories. Watch the video to hear from some past ICP interns on how their experience with ICP assisted them in landing a full-time role within their respective industries.

WesTrac and Innovation Central Perth

We are excited to announce a partnership with WesTrac to co-develop innovation projects for Curtin University students. Read the below spiel for WesTrac’s take on the collaboration.

WesTrac has started exciting work with Innovation Central Perth (ICP) – a collaboration between Curtin University and Cisco. This partnership will ensure an even stronger talent pipeline that will bring new skills and diverse thinking into our organisation to allow us to continue to support outcomes for our customers to implement cutting-edge Caterpillar technology into their operations. WesTrac and ICP will provide innovative opportunities for Curtin students to develop their skills in an industry setting and improve their understanding of the services and solutions future industries will require.

The engagement aims to develop a better understanding of how multiple disciplines can complement each other to support technology lifecycle management, and build the right capability to continue to provide WesTrac customers with a technical team who are trained with the knowledge and skills to do the work that is required in an autonomous future, with the rise of electrification and decarbonisation.

WesTrac are continuously building their strategy as a provider of a leading automation solution, supporting both the lifecycle of machines and the training required to operate for reliability and productivity. The partnership with ICP will strengthen this offering, and increase opportunities for students and graduates to be a part of our future, and the future of our customers.

ICP 2021-22 Summer Intern Program

To mark the end of the 2021-22 Innovation Central Perth Summer Intern Program, we held an end of program sundowner for our cohort of students to come together and celebrate the end of their internships.

This round, we had 30 student-led projects all investigating various solutions for ICP’s industry members focussed on machine learning, data science, cloud computing, embedded systems, API development, electrical engineering, IoT technology and more.

During this session, a handful of students presented on their projects, capturing the initial business challenge, their approach to developing a solution, the outcome of the internship, and lastly, the future direction of the project. Faculty of Science and Engineering students, Corinne DaleThomas BellYatin Patel, and Digby Emmett, all presented on their industry projects for AlcoaOlinqua, and  TADWA.

A big thank you to all of the student interns that came along to share with your fellow peers the solutions each of you have been busy working on over the summer. We commend each of your efforts and are consistently blown away by the calibre your work!
