WiTWA Tech [+] Awards

Innovation Central Perth are proud sponsors of the Women in Technology WA Inc. (WiTWA) Outstanding Youth Role Model Award for this year’s Tech [+] 20 Awards!

The WiTWA Tech [+] 20 Awards celebrates women who are veritable champions for diversity and equality for women in tech [+] in WA. The Outstanding Youth Role Model Award recognises the highest scoring applicant who is 25 or younger across the entire pool of applicants. This is an outstanding award and we are delighted to have been on board.

Congratulations to Ashlee Culmsee, who won the Outstanding Youth Role Model Award! Read her bio here.

ICP is proud of its commitment to diversity and inclusion and supporting women in IT. Two years ago, the first summer internship cohort had only 7% women. Tom Goerke, the Cisco lead for Innovation Central, vowed this low number would not be repeated. Tom set a target for intern project teams to reach 30% women in 2019 and 50% in 2020 which has been achieved.

This did not come without hard work and commitment and a clear diversity strategy that included completely changing our recruitment campaign, adapting the way the program was promoted to focus on business impact rather than technology, opening the program up to other disciplines and younger students and building upon the Centre’s inclusive culture. This year the standard of the cohort is higher than ever, over 200 applied for 26 internships of which 57 of these applicants were female.
